Exterm-an-ant | Ant Killer

Looking for the best ant bait in NZ that actually solves the problem long-term? Exterm-an-Ant Ant Killer is designed to eliminate entire colonies by targeting the source—not just the ants you see. With a proven baiting system that ants carry back to the nest, it delivers fast, effective, and lasting control for New Zealand homes.

Key Benefits

  • Kills the whole colony, including the queen
  • Fast-acting results within 24–48 hours
  • Long-term control, not just a temporary fix
  • Easy to use with simple bait placement
  • Ideal for indoor and outdoor use
  • Trusted solution for NZ households

Why This Is One of the Best Ant Baits in NZ

Not all ant treatments are created equal.

Many products like sprays and powders only kill ants on contact, which means the colony survives and the problem comes back.

Exterm-an-Ant works differently:

  • Ants are attracted to the bait
  • They carry it back to the nest
  • The bait spreads through the colony
  • The queen is eliminated

Result: Complete colony control instead of short-term relief.

What Ants Does It Work On?

Effective against common ant species in New Zealand, including:

  • Argentine ants
  • Darwin ants
  • Other sugar-feeding household ants

How It Works

Exterm-an-Ant uses a targeted baiting system with boric acid.

Worker ants consume the liquid bait and carry it back to the nest, where it is shared with other ants—including the queen. This process allows the treatment to spread through the entire colony, leading to full elimination.

How to Use

  1. Shake well before use
  2. Pour 4–5 mL into a shallow dish, bottle cap, or bait station
  3. Place near ant trails, entry points, or high-activity areas
  4. Use multiple bait stations for larger infestations

For Best Results

  • Remove other food sources to increase bait effectiveness
  • Avoid using sprays near the bait
  • Do not disturb feeding ants
  • Reapply every 4–6 weeks if needed

What to Expect

  • Increased ant activity at first (this means it’s working)
  • Ants begin dying within 24–48 hours
  • Colony elimination typically within a few days to a week

Where to Use

  • Kitchens
  • Pantries
  • Around entry points
  • Along ant trails
  • Outdoor areas around the home

Key Features

  • Active ingredient: Boric Acid
  • Type: Liquid ant bait
  • Target: Sugar-feeding ants
  • Use: Indoor and outdoor (around structures)

  1. With Raid liquid ant killer no longer available I tried a couple of other proprietary brands. The ants showed very little interest in them over a two week period. This product did the business. Within a couple of days there were no more ants.

  2. easy to apply, the ants ate and drank to excess, after 10 days no more ants – cleared many hundreds of dead soldiers from the floor, the rest died in the nest. Highly recommended

  4. Amazing product. So much better than the stuff you get from the supermarket and trade stores. Takes a bit of perseverance and resisting the urge to clean up the dead ants but once they are gone they are gone. The ants seem to smell this stuff and come running in their thousands.

  5. While I am on my 3rd bottle of ant exterminator I have to say this is the first product I have used that has made a notable difference to the amount of ants. Its really nice to be able to hang my washing on the line again after so long of having to battle ants for the of the lines. I am still putting the stuff out and there is still ants but only about a quarter of the number there used to be its decreasing daily. Yes I had about 6 any nests around the house 3 are no longer there from what I can see but will keep looking. 🙂 Thank you for a product that does as it claims.

How do I permanently get rid of ants? Ranjit asked on 10 January 2025

The best way to get rid of ants is to use a colony-killing bait like Exterm-an-ant. Squirt a small amount of bait into an ant bait station and place where you see the ant trails. If you have pets, consider placing the stations where your pets can't reach. Whilst Boric Acid is not considered toxic to pets it's always advisable to keep the bait stations out of reach.

How long does it take for Exterm-an-ant | Ant Killer to work? Chase asked on 10 January 2025

Exterm-an-ant works quickly and you should see results within 1-2 days. Exterm-an-ant actively targets ant colonies using natural attractants and boric acid. Ants carry the poison back to their nest with dead ants, leading to the complete destruction of the colony.

How can I ensure my pets don't ingest ant baits? JD asked on 10 January 2025

1. Boric acid-based baits, like Extermanant, are considered low toxicity and generally safe for pets when used as directed, however, we highly recommend using bait stations: Opt for a bait station rather than placing liquid directly on the ground to minimise the risk of pet access.
2. Strategic placement: Place ant baits in areas inaccessible to pets, such as behind furniture, on high countertops, in closed closets indoors, or behind storage boxes, sheds outside etc.

AK answered on 10 January 2025 store manager

As the ants are everywhere, including on my work desk and counter, will they contaminate other surfaces after eating the poison? I eat in these areas.

Will they carry it in their feet and mouth, etc.?

Is it poisonous to me?

Cyrus Zadeh answered on 2 November 2025

Hi Cyrus, No once ants consume Exterm-an-Ant, the amount of active ingredient (boric acid) they carry is extremely small and not harmful to people or pets when used as directed. They don’t spread enough residue on their feet or bodies to contaminate surfaces.

The product is low in toxicity to humans, but good cleaning habits ensure safety and peace of mind.
