Organic spray for your Codling Moth Problems:

Codling moth are major pests to agricultural crops, mainly fruits such as apples and pears.

Madex 2 is an organic product based on a live organism – the Codling Moth Granulosis virus otherwise known as CpGV – a naturally occurring pathogen of the codling moth. Madex 2 is a diluted form of Madex 3 especially formulated for small orchards and home gardeners. It controls Codling moth caterpillars in their earliest juvenile stages before they begin to burrow into the fruit, it has a highly specific effect on fruit maggots and thus does not impact bees. Since it is organic, the fruit is fine to eat straight away! Just rinse it under running water, as you usually would.

Once caterpillars have burrowed deep within the fruit, they become impossible to control.

Madex 2 will not control adult moths, therefore, early application provides the best results.

Directions for Use:

  1. Shake before use & mix thoroughly. Dilute 6ml of Madex 2 in 10 litres of water. Apply as a dilute spray to foliage to the point of run off.
  2. Do not leave the spray mixture standing (to avoid potential settling out).
  3. Make up a volume for a single spray treatment, appropriate to number of trees and their size.
  4. 10 Litres of spray mix is sufficient for 2 to 4 treatments of approximately 5 to 10 trees  of 3m height.

Timing:

  • Make the first application when codling moth larvae are hatching. This is normally from early to mid-October.
  • Repeat applications at 7-14 day intervals till mid-December.
  • A second infestation of young caterpillars may occur in mid-January.

Storage:

  • Store Madex 2 in its original container, in a fridge at 5 degrees Celsius or less. This extends the shelf life of the product to 22 months.
  • If not stored in a fridge keep Madex 2 in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight and use within 28 days.

Madex 2 used in consecutive seasons has a cumulative effect in the reduction of the codling moth population.

Tip: Madex 2 used in conjunction with The NoPests Codling Moth Pheromone Traps will improve the level of Codling Moth control. Monitoring of the pheromone traps provides a visual indication of the when infestations of codling moth are likely to occur.
