Hi Robyn, The Pestrol 360° Laser Outdoor Bird/Animal Repeller uses a PIR motion sensor, which generally detects any movement of heat-signature objects. However, these sensors are designed to be most responsive to living creatures like birds or animals. Movement from inanimate objects like swaying tree branches or leaves typically does not trigger it unless they are unusually warm or move directly in front of the sensor

Hi, how close do birds need to be for the motion sensor to activate? Also can the daytime mode operate continuously ie without motion detection? We have a large outdoor area and would need a continuous option. Thanks Lisa asked on 30 August 2025

Hi Lisa, The sensor activates when birds or animals come within about 10–15 metres. The daytime mode can run continuously without motion detection if you prefer.

Hi there, how close to the stake can it deter birds? I will be mounting it about 2.5m above where the birds congregate. (It will be mounted in a rod holder of a boat and the seagulls congregate on the marine finger next to the boat.) I am wondering if they will essentially find a safe space quite close to where the stake is mounted if it can't shoot down at quite an angle. Hopefully this makes sense! Hi Trevor, The Pestrol 360° Laser Repeller projects beams horizontally and around the area, but like most laser deterrents, there may be a small blind spot directly beneath the unit. Mounting it with a slight downward angle will help cover the space below, ensuring seagulls don’t find a “safe zone” too close to where it’s installed.

Auto Mode allows the Pestrol Laser Repeller to operate automatically based on the selected time settings and motion detection.

There are two Auto Mode options:

24/7 + Automatic Mode + Motion Sensor

The device works day and night, activating only when motion is detected.

Ideal for full-time protection with energy-saving functionality.

Night + Automatic Mode + Motion Sensor

The device activates only at night when motion is detected.

This mode is best for deterring nocturnal pests while saving battery during the day.

Can it be used during the day?
Yes – just select the 24/7 Auto Mode to allow the unit to activate during daylight hours if motion is detected.
