Reliable Protection for Common Bird Landing Areas

Birds often return to the same sheltered ledges, beams, signs and roof projections. Over time, this can lead to droppings, nesting material, blocked drainage, staining and ongoing cleaning costs.

Pestrol Black Stainless Steel Bird Spikes create an uncomfortable landing surface, encouraging birds to move elsewhere. They are particularly useful in areas where birds repeatedly perch or attempt to build nests.

Commercial-Grade Stainless Steel Construction

Both the spikes and base are manufactured from #304 stainless steel. Unlike products with plastic bases, the stainless steel base provides strong, long-lasting support and is less likely to become brittle when exposed to outdoor conditions.

The black powder-coated finish adds another protective layer while helping the spikes blend into dark roofs, beams, signage and building exteriors.

Flexible and Easy to Position

The narrow stainless steel base can be gently shaped to follow curved pipes, rounded ledges and uneven surfaces. Pre-drilled fixing holes also make it easy to secure the strips mechanically where required.

Multiple strips can be placed end to end to protect longer areas.

Why This Product Is Different

Many bird spike systems use plastic bases that may become brittle, discoloured or damaged after extended outdoor exposure.

Pestrol Black Stainless Steel Bird Spikes are made entirely from #304 stainless steel, including the base. This provides a stronger fixing surface, improved outdoor durability and a more professional finish for commercial installations.

The black powder coating also makes the spikes less noticeable against darker structures while providing additional surface protection.

What to Expect

Once correctly installed, the spikes immediately prevent birds from comfortably landing on the protected surface.

Birds may initially attempt to return to the area, particularly if it has been used for roosting or nesting for some time. They will generally move to another location when they can no longer land safely.

For the best results, protect the entire landing area without leaving gaps where birds could settle between or behind the strips.

Bird spikes work best as a preventative barrier. Existing nests, food sources and nearby alternative landing areas may also need to be addressed.

How It Works

The rows of stainless steel spikes reduce the available landing space on ledges and other surfaces.

The spikes do not trap or poison birds. Instead, they create a physical obstruction that makes the area difficult and uncomfortable to land on, encouraging birds to choose another location.

The blunted spike tips are designed to deter birds while reducing the risk of injury.

Recommended Usage and Coverage

Each strip measures:

  • Length: 1000mm
  • Protected width: approximately 150mm
  • Height: 110mm

One strip protects approximately 1 metre of ledge or landing surface.

Before ordering, measure the full length of the area requiring protection. Allow enough material to cover the complete landing edge, including corners, returns and projections.

For wider ledges, two or more rows may be required to prevent birds from landing behind the spikes.

Installation Instructions

  1. Measure the full length and width of the area requiring protection.
  2. Remove droppings, nesting material, dirt, grease and loose debris.
  3. Disinfect the surface and allow it to dry completely.
  4. Repair cracked, loose or unstable surfaces before installation.
  5. Position the spikes so the outer rows protect the exposed edges.
  6. Apply a suitable UV- and weather-resistant outdoor adhesive along the underside of the base.
  7. Press the strip firmly into place.
  8. Use screws or UV-resistant cable ties where additional fixing is required.
  9. Allow the adhesive to fully cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  10. Check that no gaps remain where birds could land.
