How Does the Pestrol Dominator Work?

The Dominator uses several attraction and capture methods together rather than relying on a conventional electric zapping grid.

1. LED Attraction Technology

The upgraded Dominator uses LED light technology to help attract mosquitoes, moths and other light-responsive flying insects towards the unit.

This replaces the fluorescent UV bulbs used in the previous Dominator model, eliminating the old bulb replacement process.

2. TiO₂ Attraction

The unit incorporates a titanium dioxide (TiO₂) coating as an additional component of its insect attraction system.

Combined with the LED light and optional lure, this creates multiple attraction cues rather than relying on light alone.

3. Powerful Fan Capture

Once insects approach the trap, the built-in fan creates strong airflow that pulls them down into the dry storage chamber.

There is no electrified zapping grid, helping the Dominator operate quietly without the regular crackling associated with traditional bug zappers.

4. Patented Air-Actuated Gate System

The Dominator features an air-actuated gate system designed to help keep captured insects inside the trap.

While the fan is operating, airflow opens the gate and allows insects to enter the chamber. When the unit is switched off, the gate closes to help prevent captured insects from escaping back through the trap.

Captured insects are retained within the dry chamber where they eventually dehydrate.

The Dominator can operate without an additional lure, but adding the appropriate lure can help improve mosquito attraction, particularly in areas experiencing higher mosquito activity.

Where Should I Position the Dominator?

Correct placement can make a significant difference to mosquito trapping performance.

Rather than placing the trap directly beside where people are sitting, position it between likely mosquito breeding/resting areas and the areas you want to protect.

Recommended Placement

1. Identify where mosquitoes are likely to be coming from, such as vegetation, shaded areas, damp areas or standing-water sources.
2. Position the Dominator approximately 0.9–1.8 metres above ground level where practical.
3. Aim to position it approximately 6–12 metres away from areas where people regularly sit or gather.
4. Keep it away from strong competing lights where possible.
5. Ensure airflow around the trap isn’t unnecessarily obstructed.
6. Keep the intake and surrounding area clear.

The aim is to attract mosquitoes away from people and towards the trap, rather than drawing them directly into your entertaining area.

Setting Up Your Dominator

Hanging Installation

• Use a strong and suitable hook or mounting point capable of safely supporting the unit.
• Make sure the trap is stable and positioned where it won’t be knocked or interfere with normal movement around the property.

Freestanding Installation

• If positioning the Dominator on a surface, place it on a flat and stable base where the intake and airflow remain unobstructed.

Power

• Connect the unit to a suitable mains electrical outlet.
• When using the Dominator outdoors, ensure the electrical connection and any extension equipment used are appropriate for the installation environment.

For very large properties or areas separated by buildings, vegetation or other obstacles, more than one trap may be required.

Maintenance
