  • Ideal for stubborn roaming or stray cats
  • Simple sprinkle application
  • Helps stop digging, spraying, and fouling behaviour
  • Suitable for gardens, pathways, lawns, and outdoor spaces

Keep Cats Away From Your Garden

Wally’s Cat Repellent is designed to help stop cats from returning to problem areas around your home and garden. Whether you’re dealing with stray cats, neighbourhood pets, or persistent digging and fouling, this outdoor cat deterrent provides a practical way to protect your outdoor spaces.

The granules release a strong odour that cats dislike, encouraging them to avoid treated areas and eventually change their habits over time.

Easy to Apply

Simply sprinkle the granules around the areas you want to protect, including:

  • Garden beds
  • Lawns
  • Pathways
  • Outdoor entertaining areas
  • Fence lines
  • Around rubbish areas

For food gardens, avoid direct contact with soil. Place the product on a piece of plywood or inside a suitable container instead.

Designed for NZ Conditions

Wally’s Cat Repellent works best in dry conditions and can remain effective for weeks. Heavy rain and wet weather will reduce performance, so reapplication may be required after rain.

Why This Product Is Different

Unlike ultrasonic devices or temporary sprays, Wally’s Cat Repellent creates an ongoing scent barrier that helps discourage repeat visits from cats over time.

It’s especially useful for:

  • Persistent stray cats
  • Areas where cats regularly dig or foul
  • Garden protection without installing devices or fencing

The included usage tips also help extend effectiveness and reduce how often the product needs replacing.

What to Expect

Most cats will avoid treated areas shortly after application, although results can vary depending on weather conditions and how frequently cats visit the area.

For best results:

  • Reapply after rain
  • Maintain treatment until cat habits change
  • Use consistently in problem areas

Some highly persistent cats may require ongoing treatment.

How It Works

Wally’s Cat Repellent uses naphthalene crystals to create a scent cats naturally avoid. When placed around problem areas, the smell acts as a deterrent, helping stop cats from entering, digging, or fouling in treated zones.

The product slowly evaporates in dry conditions to provide ongoing protection. Wet weather will reduce effectiveness and may require reapplication.

Recommended Usage

  • Sprinkle lightly around areas where cat activity occurs
  • Reapply as needed, especially after rain
  • Continue treatment until cats stop returning

Helpful Tip for Longer Performance

To help protect the crystals from rain:

  1. Cut the base from a 2L plastic milk bottle
  2. Place a small rock inside to stop movement
  3. Add a few spoonfuls of crystals inside
  4. Position the bottle in the area you want to protect

This helps keep the product dry while maintaining the deterrent scent.

Where to Use

Suitable for:

  • Gardens
  • Flower beds
  • Lawns
  • Pathways
  • Around compost bins
  • Fence lines
  • Outdoor areas around the home

Not recommended for direct application onto edible garden soil.

Guarantee / Warranty Section

  • Always follow label instructions carefully
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets
  • Product is supplied in a child-resistant container
  • EPA and ERMA approved for sale in New Zealand

Protect your garden from unwanted cat activity with Wally’s Cat Repellent. Easy to apply and proven effective against most roaming cats, it’s a practical solution for keeping outdoor areas cleaner, tidier, and more enjoyable year-round.

FAQs

How big of an area does the Wally's cat repellent cover?

Wally’s Cat Repellent does not have a fixed square metre coverage area because it depends on:

how heavily you apply it
the size of the area being protected
weather conditions (rain reduces effectiveness)
how persistent the cats are.

As a general guide, a 250g container is best suited for:

small to medium garden areas
targeted problem spots
garden beds, pathways, decks, or entry points where cats regularly visit.

Most users apply small amounts around the perimeter of the area they want to protect and then reapply as needed, especially after rain.

I the product is mistakenly sprinkled in a vegetable patch, how long might it be harmful, or how long should one wait to use the vegetable patch to grow food again? Mary asked on 26 May 2026

Hi Mary, Wally's Cat Repellent contains naphthalene and is not recommended for direct application to edible garden soil. If the product has been accidentally applied to a vegetable patch, we recommend removing any visible granules or residue and thoroughly cultivating the affected soil.

As a precaution, avoid planting edible crops in the treated area until the product has completely dissipated and the odour is no longer detectable. This may take several weeks depending on weather conditions, soil type, and application rate.

If food crops were already growing in the treated area, we recommend not consuming produce that has come into direct contact with the product. For specific advice relating to your situation, please contact WALLY'S with details of the application rate and affected area 0800 466 464

There are neighbourhood cats coming onto our property and spraying and pooping on our concrete and deck. Not going in our garden though very unusual but frustrating. Will this product work on concrete? Gail Harris asked on 15 October 2025

Hi Gail, Wally's is primarily designed for use in garden areas, but it can be used on hard surfaces like concrete, decks, or driveways with a few precautions:

How to Apply on Concrete:

Sprinkle the crystals lightly along the edges of the area where the cats are marking or entering.

For best results, place the crystals in small open containers or shallow trays rather than directly on the concrete — this prevents staining and makes cleanup or reapplication easier.

Reapply after heavy rain or when the scent begins to fade.

Safety Tip:
Because the product contains naphthalene, avoid using it in enclosed or high-traffic areas where people or pets may come into close contact. Always follow the safety instructions on the label.

Extra Tip:
If cats are spraying or marking specific spots, you can clean those areas with an enzyme-based cleaner first to remove the scent markers, then place the repellent nearby — this combination usually helps stop the return visits faster.

I see this questions was asked already, but wasn’t exactly answered… Is this safe for dogs? Have a dog of my own, but want to stop the neighbours cats, without effecting my dog? Is that okay? Travis asked on 8 October 2025

Hi Travis, Yes – Wally’s Cat Repellent can be used safely around dogs when applied correctly. The product contains naphthalene crystals, which effectively deter pest cats but can be harmful if eaten or inhaled in large amounts. To keep dogs safe, place the crystals in areas they can’t reach or lick and only use them outdoors in well-ventilated spaces. Once positioned securely and allowed to air out, it won’t cause harm to dogs. Always store unused product safely and wash hands after handling.

Does this repel rats too ? Jane Robson asked on 1 October 2025

Hi Jane, Wally’s Cat Repellent is designed to deter cats, not rats. While the smell may discourage some animals, it is not a reliable or effective solution for rat control. For rats, we recommend using products specifically made for rodent deterrence or trapping.
