Effective Sooty Mould Removal for Garden Plants
Wally’s Karbyon is designed to help remove black sooty mould from plants while also assisting with the prevention of powdery mildew and black spot.
The potassium bicarbonate formula works by helping loosen and break down mould growth on plant surfaces, allowing it to be washed away after treatment.
Suitable for use on:
- Citrus trees
- Ornamentals
- Shrubs
- Vegetables
- Fruit trees
- General garden plants
Helps Restore Plant Health
Black sooty mould doesn’t just affect the appearance of plants — it can also reduce the plant’s ability to absorb sunlight efficiently.
This mould commonly develops from honeydew produced by pests such as:
- Whitefly
- Aphids
- Scale insects
- Mealybugs
- Thrips
By helping remove the mould buildup, Karbyon supports cleaner foliage and healthier-looking plants.
Ideal for Citrus Trees
Karbyon is especially useful on citrus trees affected by Australian Whitefly, a common pest problem in many parts of New Zealand.
Regular treatment can help clean heavily affected leaves and improve the overall appearance of citrus plants.
Why This Product Is Different
Unlike standard fungicide sprays, Wally’s Karbyon is specifically designed to help remove existing black sooty mould while also assisting with fungal prevention.
Its micro-encapsulated potassium bicarbonate formula is easy to mix and suitable for a wide range of garden plants.
The product can also be paired with insect control treatments where ongoing pest pressure is causing mould buildup.
What to Expect
After spraying:
- Mould begins loosening from foliage
- Plants may appear cleaner within 48 hours
- A second application may be required for heavy buildup
- Severely affected plants may need follow-up pest treatment
For best results, thoroughly spray all affected foliage to runoff.
How It Works
Karbyon uses potassium bicarbonate to help break down sooty mould and assist with fungal management on plant surfaces.

- Add 50g of Karbyon to 5 litres of water
- Mix thoroughly in the spray tank
- Spray affected foliage until runoff
- Wait approximately 48 hours

For mildew and black spot prevention, Raingard can be added to help extend rain resistance.

Great product, it did the trick. Seems no gardeners know about it, fortunately someone answered my question online re what to do about sooty mould ,so I googled.
Very good product. It really appeared to work on most of the mould on the first application. I’m going to give the hedge another dose soon and hopefully that will be a complete cure.
