Musselburgh Leek (Allium ampeloprasum var porrum) is popular with home gardeners,  as it is easy to grow and relatively pest and disease free.

How To Grow:

  1. Sow seeds 1cm apart, 1cm deep either in to seed trays (for transplanting after frosts) or directly into a prepared garden bed.
  2. Water well until plants are established.
  3. Transplant when 10cm tall, 30-38cm apart.
  4. For extra long white shanks, when transplanting dig a 10cm trench, plant leeks at the bottom and cover.
  5. Seedlings usually appear in 7 to 10 days.

When To Plant: Summer, Autumn, Winter

Harvest: 27-30 weeks
