How Does Brodifacoum Rat Bait Work?
Brodifacoum is an anticoagulant rodenticide that interferes with the normal clotting of blood. Its action is delayed, so rats and mice do not normally associate the bait with the later effects of poisoning.

Accidental Poisoning
Symptoms of brodifacoum poisoning may not become apparent for several days. Possible symptoms include pale gums, unusual bruising or blood in urine or faeces.
If human poisoning is suspected, do not induce vomiting. Contact a doctor or the New Zealand National Poisons Centre immediately on 0800 POISON (0800 764 766).
If a pet or livestock animal may have consumed the bait or a poisoned rodent, contact a veterinarian immediately. Vitamin K1 is an effective antidote when administered under veterinary direction. Do not wait for symptoms to appear.
