Detroit Beetroot (Beta vulgaris) is an easy to grow, deep crimson, versatile vegetable with fine flavour, and freezes well.
How To Grow:
Sow 2.5cm deep in rows 30cm apart. Beetroot grows well on most well-cultivated soils.
Keep soil moist.
Sow thinly and repeat at intervals for succession.
Thin out to 10cm when large enough to handle.
Harvest: Don’t cut leaves but twist them off as this will prevent bleeding.
When To Plant: Late Winter to Autumn
